Philips Ambilight technology is now available on Samsung TVs, making video games, films and sporting events more immersive than ever…
Samsung and the Signify group, owner of Philips Hue, recently created a partnership to integrate the Philips Hue Sync TV app into Samsung televisions. This is excellent news for owners of a Samsung TV, who will be able to synchronize the smart lighting in the living room with the content displayed on the TV screen. By installing a Philips Hue Lightstrip behind the television, Philips Ambilight technology will provide greater immersion with films, sports and video games!

How to benefit from Philips Hue Sync TV on your Samsung TV
It couldn’t be easier to enjoy ambient lighting that is synchronized with the image of a Samsung TV! Simply install the Philips Hue Sync TV app from the television’s app store and pair it with the Philips Hue smart lighting in your home in the dedicated menu. The app costs €130, which isn’t cheap, but it is a better deal than the Philips Hue Play HDMI Sync Box, which costs another €150!
Ideally, the TV should be fitted with a Philips Hue Play Gradient Lightstrip, to be attached to the back of the screen, or a pair of Philips Hue Play Gradient Tube connected lights, to be placed on the sides. The Philips Hue Sync TV app lets you control the majority of Philips Hue color connected lights: the more you have in the room, the more immersive the ambience!
The lights can be connected to the television without a separate HDMI synchronization box by using the Samsung Smart TV platform and the Philips Hue Bridge, both connected to the local WiFi network.
This is a huge leap forward from the Philips Hue Play HDMI Sync Box system that we tested a few months ago. The latter can only synchronize the lighting with sources that are connected to its box via HDMI, leaving out the TV’s integrated streaming and cloud gaming services.
“The Philips Hue Sync TV app allows content and the lights to sync. This means our consumers can enjoy this feature with everything from streaming services to video games,” said AJ Cho of Samsung Electronics. “It’s not only easy to install but also keeps the TV setup clean, with no need for additional cables.”
What content can be synchronized with the lighting?
The Philips Hue Sync TV app is compatible with a wide variety of content, notably movies, TV shows, video games and live sporting events. It offers two lighting modes so that users can customize their experience according to the content.
“I strongly recommend using the lights on game mode, which provides immersive lighting based on the genre of the game you’re playing,” says AJ Cho. “Whether it’s a simulation, FPS, or racing game, the extra lighting pulls you in.”
Philips Hue ambient lighting also works well with TV shows and films. “Switching to Video mode with a horror movie transforms the room, immersing the viewer in a chilling, ominous atmosphere that truly elevates the viewing experience.”
Sport fans will also appreciate the synergy between Samsung TVs and Philips Hue smart lighting. “Using Philips Hue truly enhances the thrill of watching a game at home. Paired with superior sound and picture quality, the TV and the lighting combination creates a stadium-like atmosphere right in your living room.”
By integrating the Philips Hue Sync TV app into its Samsung televisions, the Korean manufacturer has significantly improved the user experience. Now, Samsung TVs can provide total immersion in the image, similarly to Philips Ambilight televisions.
