Dune Chafer Anomala dubia (Ashe, 1947)
With apparent changes to our climate over recent years, it's perhaps not too much of a surprise to have this beetle recently added to the Nottinghamshire fauna. This is quite a large species, found at many coastal sites where it occurs as its name implies, in sand dunes and at the top of beaches. Similar at first glance to the incredibly common Garden Chafer Phyllopertha horticola , Nottinghamshire's first records came in 2023, when Brian Wetton found Anomala dubia at Spalford Warren, with another record coming from the same site a few weeks later.
